In the Arena, you're either a killer or a victim.
If survival meant murdering an innocent person in cold blood every week, could you do it? Are you able to stick the knife into your opponent's heart while they look at you with fear in their eyes? Life in the Arena turns everyone into sinners.
A homeless boy is kidnapped from the streets and finds himself imprisoned in a far more horrifying place: The Arena, a place where teenage boys fight to the death for the pleasure of various lowlifes.
The Arena is the brainchild of Ryker, an ex-convict addicted to alcohol, gladiatorial-esque combats, and money. When not devising new ways for boys to kill each other, he’s ruling his small empire with a ruthless fist, rewarding his guards with sex slaves and punishing those who oppose him with barbaric executions.
Renamed Dog, the boy from the street proves to be an excellent fighter and finds himself surviving week after week, but as he leaves a trail of bodies in his wake, the ghosts of slain boys haunt him and the violence threatens to wake a beast inside him.
Allegra, a slave girl in the Arena and a victim of Ryker's constant abuse, is his only key to salvation. She has lost everything already -- her family, her innocence, and her dignity -- while her will to live hangs on by a thin thread. Can she save Dog's humanity before she too succumbs to the horrors of the Arena?
Seeking to defy Ryker as Dog rises to power as his champion, the stage is set for something to give in this murderous world of young combatants.
A tale about survival, tragedy, and human perseverance, the Complete SHADOW OF WRATH is the first book in the Sins of the 7 series.
Getting to Know the Characters
by L.W. Patricks
I've always been fascinated with strong female characters in fiction, bad ass heroic girls like Wonder Woman, Katniss Everdeen, Hermione Granger, Eowyn, Lyra Silvertongue, Lisabeth Salander, Mulan, and the list goes on and on and on.
I'm not going to lie, women who are confident, believe in themselves, and exuberate great inner strength are extremely sexy and I love writing about them. This brings me to my favourite character in Shadow of Wrath: Allegra.
When we first meet Allegra, she's an emotional wreck, given the circumstances she's in. Allegra's a slave to a sick sociopath, she watches kids die in the pit each and every week, and tasked to mend the wounds of the survivors after every fight. She's had so many kids die on her that her sanity really starts to break. She's sick of looking in the mirror and seeing this weak and helpless girl staring back at her.
And then along comes Dog, a boy off the streets who is savage, vicious, and most of all strong. She envies his strength and deep down inside, wishes she had his physical and mental toughness.
Throughout the book, they both endure a lot together, and it's the ending where I think readers will be the most surprised. The transformation of Allegra is one I'm very proud of, and when the last page is done, I want people to see where true strength really comes from: through sacrifice, love, and, a determination to become something better, to become an unstoppable force that can tear down the walls of any prison.
Allegra is my realistic take on a strong heroine; a beauty and a beast all wrapped into a single, powerful female character that you will hopefully love as much as I do.
Make sure you check out Shadow of Wrath to read about Allegra’s powerful transformation! As well can sign up for my email list and I’ll give you a free ebook of short stories I wrote!
