Discussion: 5 Softwares I Use to Organize My Blogging Life... Or Maybe Just Life

Bookwyrming Thoughts Discussion
Back in Part 3 in Blogging + Real Life: How Do You Balance Both? I went into a brief basis of how I actually manage to do both without stressing out, which is actually organization. Back in the old golden days of my noobiness when I first started Bookwyrming Thoughts, I pretty muched winged posts. It didn't exactly go out so great until I decided to run around with calendars in March 2013. Bookwyrming Tidbit: I scribble in my school planner with important dates and notes and it's REALLY messy. Therefore, I am not OCD. Although I sort of am... but I've been told it's not severe.

Review: The Secret Diamond Sisters by Michelle Madow

The Secret Diamond Sisters by Michelle Madow

The Secret Diamond Sisters #1
Author:
Michelle Madow
Publication Date: February 25, 2014
Publisher: Harlequin Teen

Savannah. Courtney. Peyton.

The three sisters grew up not knowing their father and not quite catching a break. But it looks like their luck is about to change when they find out the secret identity of their long-lost dad—a billionaire Las Vegas hotel owner who wants them to come live in a gorgeous penthouse hotel suite. Suddenly the Strip's most exclusive clubs are all-access, and with an unlimited credit card each, it should be easier than ever to fit right in. But in a town full of secrets and illusion, fitting in is nothing compared to finding out the truth about their past.

I actually forgot I placed a hold on this. Then I got an email on April Fool's Day and I thought it was a prank, because no one is trustworthy on that day (even you, mom). I find that interesting because when I actually placed a hold, there was about 8 people, and it wasn't long ago. I was figuring I could wait until May. But nope, it was April.

Review: Moonless by Crystal Collier

Moonless by Crystal Collier

Maiden of Time #1
Author:
Crystal Collier
Publication Date: November 13, 2013
Publisher: Raybourne Publishing

In the English society of 1768 where women are bred to marry, unattractive Alexia, just sixteen, believes she will end up alone. But on the county doorstep of a neighbor’s estate, she meets a man straight out of her nightmares, one whose blue eyes threaten to consume her whole world—especially later when she discovers him standing over her murdered host in the middle of the night.

Among the many things to change for her that evening are: her physical appearance—from ghastly to breathtaking, an epidemic of night terrors predicting the future, and the blue-eyed man’s unexpected infusion into her life. Not only do his appearances precede tragedies, but they are echoed by the arrival of ravenous, black-robed wraiths on moonless nights.

Unable to decide whether he is one of these monsters or protecting her from them, she uncovers what her father has been concealing: truths about her own identity, about the blue-eyed man, and about love. After an attack close to home, Alexia realizes she cannot keep one foot in her old life and one in this new world. To protect her family she must either be sold into a loveless marriage, or escape with the man of her dreams and risk becoming one of the Soulless.
Review Copy provided by the author for review

Let's just say I was a tad bit hesitant on reading Moonless – the book seemed interesting, yet not so interesting – all at the same time. Thus resulting in me snagging the excerpt from Amazon – the 2 page excerpt wasn't enough – and reading up to Chapter 3.

Sometimes having a fairytale prince as a best friend can be a real pain.

Review: Fire & Shadow by T.G. Ayer

Fire and Shadow by T.G. Ayer

Hand of Kali #1
Author:
T.G. Ayer
Publication Date: July 23, 2013
Publisher: Infinite Ink Books

Normal people sneak out to a party and have fun. Maya Rao ends the evening by incinerating the guy who attacks her.

Nik Lucas, sexy, new in town and totally forbidden, happens to walk in on her. Normal guys would run for the hills. Nik knows a whole lot more than he's telling.

Maya doesn't believe the gods are real, doesn't waste her time with mere mythology. But when gods, demons and hellhounds become the new normal and wielding fire becomes her new skill, she must decide what it is she really believes.

Can Maya accept that normal is something she will never be because it isn't normal to be ...

The Hand of Kali.

A new Paranormal coming of age series delving in the fantasy and magic of Hindu mythology and its plethora of gods, demons, legends & mythology.

Gorgeous cover, brilliant idea, but the story? The inner editor in me saying there needs to be some major fixing. But first, let me narrow down the basis of Fire & Shadow before launching into what I didn't like about the book and why said book didn't get a fantabulously stellar rating.

The Conduit by Stacey Rourke

Gryphon #1
Author:
Stacey Rourke
Publication Date: November 1, 2011
Publisher: Anchor Group

All 18-year-old Celeste Garrett wants is to head off to college and make those fun, yet ill-advised, choices college kids are known for. And maybe to spend some time with the hot cameraman she just met. Instead, because of a pact her ancestors made in the 17th century with a mythical creature, she has to save the world.

While normal kids are slamming energy drinks and cramming for exams, Celeste will get her adrenaline rush fighting a fire breathing dragon. She wants to meet friends in the quad to exchange lecture notes, but first she must exchange blows with a shapeshifting demon on the rooftop. Life isn’t always fair for a superhero, but at least she doesn’t have to do it alone. With her brother and sister as sidekicks, they alternate between saving lives and getting on each others’ nerves. Together the trio encounters unspeakable odds, mystical forces and comes face-to-face with an image that will haunt them forever—their grandmother in a leopard print bikini.

I am making progress in the 2014 TBR Pile Challenge and cleaning out my Kindle. Of course, the latter will take quite a long time, but... I'll get there. ;) *rubs hands together as though ready to make an evil potion*

The Iron-Jawed Boy by Nikolas Lee

Sky Guardian Chronicles #1

Nikolas Lee
Publication Date: July 2013
Publisher: Parthenon Publishing House

Year 2300
Protea: Capitol of the Eldanarian Isle

Two hundred years have passed since the lands of the Outerworld humans were destroyed, save but a handful of rebellious cities. In their ruin, the last gods of Earth, the Illyrians, rose victorious. And ever since, it's with a cruel iron fist they've ruled over their subjects--desperate to keep their thrones.

Fast approaching his teens, Ionikus Reaves knows the gods' malevolence all too well, orphaned by them after their call for a military draft on Eldanar, his home island. But when a power once dormant in Ion boils to the surface, he's whisked off to a hidden world of the island, where he comes face-to-face with the mighty Illyrians.

For Ion is a Guardian--a reincarnated god bound to serve and protect the pantheon he's so quickly learned to hate. Now torn between his obligations as a Guardian and his hatred of the gods he's to guard, Ion finds himself in the middle of a war within himself. A war that could uncover a dark secret of the gods'...and split the pantheon in two.
Review copy provided by author for review

Apparently when I first saw the title before the synopsis, I thought it was either a) a boy by the name of Ionikus Reaves has so strong of a jaw, it's like Iron! Or b) the same boy was apparently born with an oddity. Obviously I was wrong, but the cover doesn't seem to have a guy with a jaw nor did the synopsis said anything about iron jaws, so I had to make my own assumptions. *shrugs*

Review: The Faerie Guardian by Rachel Morgan

The Faerie Guardian by Rachel Morgan

Creepy Hollow #1
Author:
Rachel Morgan
Publication Daate: April 5, 2012
Publisher: Self Published

Enter a hidden world of magic, mystery, danger and romance in this YA fantasy from Amazon bestselling author, Rachel Morgan...

Protecting humans from dangerous magical creatures is all in a day’s work for a faerie training to be a guardian. Seventeen-year-old Violet Fairdale knows this better than anyone—she’s about to become the best guardian the Guild has seen in years. That is, until a cute human boy who can somehow see through her faerie glamor follows her into the Fae realm. Now she’s broken Guild Law, a crime that could lead to her expulsion.

The last thing Vi wants to do is spend any more time with the boy who got her into this mess, but the Guild requires that she return Nate to his home and make him forget everything he’s discovered of the Fae realm. Easy, right? Not when you factor in evil faeries, long-lost family members, and inconvenient feelings of the romantic kind. Vi is about to find herself tangled up in a dangerous plot—and it’ll take all her training to get out alive.

[This novel was originally published in four separate parts: Guardian,Labyrinth, Traitor and Masquerade. It includes bonus scenes at the end that were not published in the individual parts.]
Review copy provided by the author via Xpresso Book Tours

Faeries! I adore them because they're cute, and I think that was a completely corny reason as to why I like faeries. I've actually seen The Faerie Guardian floating around a few times with great praise, and added it to my TBR (BTR? Really, Soph?). So when I actually saw that it was up for review over at Xpresso Book Tours... I definitely pounced on the opportunity and signed up ASAP.

Review: Six Moon Summer by SM Reine

Six Moon Summer by SM Reine

Seasons of the Moon #1
Author:
SM Reine
Publication Date: January 1, 2011
Publisher: Red Iris Books

Rylie's been bitten.

She's changing.

And now she has three months to find a cure before becoming a werewolf... forever.

Rylie Gresham hates everything about summer camp: the food, the fresh air, the dumb activities, and the other girls in her cabin. But the worst part is probably being bitten by a werewolf. Being a teenager is hard enough, but now she's craving raw flesh and struggles with uncontrollable anger. If she doesn't figure out a way to stop the transformation, then at the end of summer, her life is worse than over. She'll be a monster.

Okay, wow. I can't believe how long it's been since I've read a story containing werewolves, and usually those involve other supernatural creatures – most commonly vampires. And they never get along if you want to call up Edward and Jacob, who are probably getting along fine as of Breaking Dawn.

Two Wars, One Destiny. Seventeen-year-old Edyn Vella always knew that her strange dreams of the future made her unique, but she never knew what they meant. However, when she fails to stop her aunt's murder by an ominous vampiric creature, Edyn learns that her prophetic visions aren't the only superhuman ability she possesses.

Following her late aunt's clues, Edyn finds herself in New York City attempting to save her last surviving relative, the powerful and reclusive billionaire, Ethan Roux. Edyn not only discovers Ethan isn't exactly human, but that she is at the center of an ancient prophecy and could determine the outcome of an impending war.

As Ethan's Omega, his only human descendant, she's thrust into an enigmatic world full of new supernatural creatures where both good and evil vampires and warlocks have waged a centuries-long battle for the fate of humanity. Just as her relationship with the mysterious and handsome Brendan begins to blossom, Edyn's complicated new life quickly spirals out of control when ancient evil becomes determined on making her one of them. Edyn must discover her inner strength while making the choice between a long life without love and a potentially short life full of it.

The Bellum Prophecy is a dark, suspenseful new novel that explores the loss of innocence while coming of age in the midst of a battle between good and evil. Combining the best elements of vampire legend, the supernatural, and even magic, L. Marie Horton uses exciting action and a cutting-edge story to craft a refreshing new take on young adult fiction.

ARC Review: Camelot Burning by Kathryn Rose

Camelot Burning by Kathryn Rose

Metal & Lace #1

Publication Date: May 8, 2014

By day, Vivienne is Guinevere's lady-in-waiting. By night, she's Merlin's secret apprentice, indulging in the new mechanical arts and science of alchemy. It's a preferred distraction from Camelot’s gossipy nobility, roguish knights, and Lancelot’s athletic new squire, Marcus, who will follow in all knights’ footsteps by taking a rather inconvenient vow of chastity.

More than anything, Vivienne longs to escape Camelot for a future that wouldn't include needlework or marriage to a boorish lord or dandy. But when King Arthur's sorceress sister, Morgan le Fay, threatens Camelot, Vivienne must stay to help Merlin build a steam-powered weapon to defeat the dark magic machine Morgan will set upon the castle. Because if Camelot falls, Morgan would be that much closer to finding the elusive Holy Grail. Time is running out and Morgan draws near, and if Vivienne doesn't have Merlin's weapon ready soon, lives would pay the price, including that of Marcus, the only one fast enough to activate it on the battlefield.

I don't know much about Arthurian Lore – it's probably one of the only story I've never read in it's original form aside from the original Grimm Brothers' Fairy Tales (but those are horrifying, so I'm not even going to bother). I somehow doubt that Magic Tree House – who made Morgan LeFay a harmless fly – or Wizard101's Avalonian world even counts, except for maybe the latter being used as visual aid. :p

But personally that's sort of the thrill in reading a retelling without reading the original one: no judging or comparing – it's a mostly complete blank slate.
