Fortune Cookie Meterologist says, "Partly sunny with a chance of love/hate relationship."
Love: Did someone say library? As in, libraries have portals? EEEP. THE EXCITEMENT IS REAL.
Hate: There's a love triangle, and both Arik and Bastien are quite overprotective of Gia. Oh, and they act like she's a damsel in distress.
You have to see me safely to my room? What part of me screams damsel in distress to everyone around here?
Hate: Gia's jealousy is very heavy. It's so heavy, her jealousy almost borders on obsession.
Love: Diversity. Brenda Drake incorporates so much diversity in Thief of Lies. Most of the characters are from all corners of the world – Asia, India, Africa, France, Ireland, Italian and spells are typically told in each realm's native language instead of the typical Latin. I like that a lot.
Hate: Occasionally there's an information blow up, especially when Gia is introduced to the Sentinel world, half wizard half knight people who protect libraries around the world from malicious beings.
Love: Learning about the Sentinel/Wizard world is really interesting, but that might be my Erudite side making an appearance.
Hate: Instalove. Have I mentioned Gia's jealousy almost borders on obsession? Yeah, She's in love with Arik early on.
The sound of my name off his lips melted me.Love: Brenda Drake's writing style. Drake is awesome at accents and the occasional tidbit of humor here and there.
Arik: Are you barmy?Hate: Oh. I can't think of any now. I've mentioned Gia's jealousy, the instalove, the love triangle, the ever so interesting information blowup sometimes that isn't exactly overwhelming...
Gia: What is that supposed to mean? Speak English, already.
Arik: I live in England. I am speaking English.
I'm just filling this space to go with the pattern. Have I mentioned manly smell is mentioned? That might be a pet peeve now.
Love: Future cousin rivalry? If that's a fact, this could become lots and lots of fun in the future. Nothing is more entertaining than screwed up family history in the works (okay, my family history is screwed up as well).
Verdict: I claim Bastien and running away until the sequel comes out.
P.S. I felt like playing with my reviews. It's new food for the new year. Consider me curious.
