Novel Newcomers: A Guest Post with Rachel

Check Out the Details!
Hello everyone, and Happy Monday!

Welcome to another Novel Newcomers - the second of awesome guest posts from bloggers who started last year. Last week, Nori featured favorite book quotes written by Jaime @ Books and Ladders. This week, we have Rachel from Go Read a Book taking over Bookwyrming Thoughts for the day. :)

Top 10 Reasons Why I Started a Book Blog

I'm excited to be involved in this awesome feature! I wanted to share ten reasons why I became a book blogger. Some of these are more like perks to being one and some of them run together a little bit. Oh well, I thought it would be a good post to showcase why I wanted to be involved in the community in the first place.

1. To share my book recommendations

There's tons of books that I feel should be required reading for people, and blogging gives you an outlet to share your favorites. It really blew my mind how awesome and big the Top Ten Tuesday feature from The Broke and the Bookish is in the community. People love lists and recommendations.

2. I love writing

I've always been the type of person who loves creating characters and stories. I started blogging my random thoughts about four or five years ago. I included some bookish recs, but it still wasn't completely book centered.

3. Meeting new friends!

This one goes without saying and I'm sure that's a common reason why countless other book bloggers joined the community. However, it's still an important one. Having the chance to meet people through blogging and also tweeting about books on Twitter is a great feeling.

4. Communicating with my favorite authors

I tend to do this more through Twitter and not my blog. Nevertheless, I wouldn't being doing it in the first place without having a book blog.

5. Attending bookish events

I wouldn't know about so many book events without being a blogger. Though I haven't had a chance to attend any yet, it's still nice to know more about them.

6. Having a space to be creative

It's fabulous to have a corner of the internet where you can truly express yourself. You can be as creative and weird as you want to be. I just love knowing that.

7. Sharing my favorite book boyfriends

Honestly, this was a big reason why I started blogging. I started reading so many books filled with swoony boys and I wanted to share my thoughts with other people.

8. Getting to take part in features

I love features like Waiting On Wednesday, Sunday Post, and Top Ten Tuesday. I don't always get to participate in all of these, but it's nice to know that the option is always there. This is definitely more of a perk since it wasn't something that I considered when I did start blogging. But I still enjoy this aspect of being a book blogger!

9. Having the opportunity to share giveaways

Okay, so I'm going crazy with the perks here. I like being able to host giveaways on my blog. Even better is when I participate in giveaway hops and get to share it with other people.

10. Looking up to other bloggers

This probably should be at the top of my list. I was just afraid it ran together with some of the others. A big reason why I wanted to blog was from reading other blogs. I would see everything that they were sharing: recs, reviews, interviews, creative features, and I wanted to follow in their footsteps.
