Novel Newcomers: Interview with Claire, Sophie, and Sam

Hello and happy Monday!

Lupe and I do apologize for the absence of Fangirl Friday on April Fool's Day, but I just didn't feel like making a post in her absence....

Anyways... welcome to another week of Novel Newcomers! This week, we have Sophie @ Sailing Through Books, Claire @ BlankSlaters Reads, and Sam @ Literary Lover taking over the blog with an interview! Oh, and by the way... there's a veryyy evil question that will render bookworms to tears. Hey, Nori's the angelic one. I never claimed I was angelic, even if I do have a pretty little halo in my pocket. But I've got the three-pronged spears too. And the tail. Always the tail.

Let's get on with it, eh?

Outside of blogging and reading, what other interests do you have?
Sophie: Um… does Netflix count as a hobby? XD Alright, more seriously, I enjoy running and spending time with my family. <3 Certainly, certainly. Netflix counts.

Claire: I love to draw! Drawing really relaxes me. I’m not very good at drawing people, but I love drawing with sharpies! You're probably a better artist than I am... but I'm not good at drawing people, either! Especially the eyes. Never the eyes.

Sam: I’m a competition dancer, so dance is like, my one true love outside of reading. I spend every day of the week except Sunday (sadly) at my studio and have literally no idea what to do with myself when I don’t have dance. But, I’m also such a foodie! When I’m not at dance (which is almost never) my friend and I like to go into the city and visit all these bakeries and stuff.

What is your most unusual accomplishment?
Sophie: I'm not quite sure how "unusual" we're talking here, so here's two: I can touch my nose with my tongue and I published a Christmas book for children when I was younger. As in PUBLISHED published?!?!

Claire: When I was younger I was fairly stupid. I had a terribly [bad] stomach ache so I looked up a crazy natural home remedy to said stomach ache and drank warm milk that had olive oil in it and I didn’t puke up my guts. I suggest Tums regarding stomach aches, warm milk with olive oil wasn’t pleasant at all. Ew. *shudders at the thought*

Sam: Uhhh…okay so I don’t know if this is an actual accomplishment but I’m really good at untangling things? Like, I can untangle ANYTHING (I swear okay…Send me your knotted stuff…). Another unusual accomplishment would probably my studies on Ocean Acidification. Sadly, I can't untangle for the life of me unless it's simple.

What is your favorite food? Sophie: Ouhh… this one is tough… I have a sweet spot for anything with pasta.

Claire: PASTA. NOODLES. I love it so much, they are so delicious! Especially alfredo sauce! And you can’t forget the basic way too salty but yummy ramen noodles! :)

Sam: All of them. Honestly I don’t even know I love so many types of food. My favorite types are Italian, Japanese, or Chinese. My favorite specific foods are brownies, fried rice, and pasta.

Oh, hey! A pasta lover trio!

If fictional characters were real, who would automatically be in your elite circle of best friends?
Sophie: Ryan Dean from Winger (he's so funny and chill, a guy I would just want to be friends with), Sophie from Hex Hall (she's hilarious, she has an amazing name and some pretty cool powers too), Theodore Finch from All the Bright Places (I want a guy like Finch in my life, but better yet, if he could be here for realz, I'll take it!), the seven from the Heroes of Olympus series (Percy=drool, Annabeth=so cool and intelligent, Piper=chill and vegetarian, Leo=need I say more?, Frank=such a nice guy, Hazel=sweet and loyal)

I think that would be a good start!

Claire: Probably Wesley Ayers from The Archived series. Mostly because he is really funny and I think he would just be an amazing friend who would listen to me when I needed it. Plus, he’s a guy and I think guys are nicer than girls, though I’ve never had any guy friends.

Sam: Clary Fray, Emma Carstairs, Celaena Sardothien, Rose Hathaway, and Ronan Lynch (LOL)

What are some of your pet peeves when it comes to characters?
Sophie: When a character tries to convince me of how ordinary he/she is. Clearly, if you're the MC of a book, you're gonna have something special about you so stop it with your "I'm not special" comments! You sound like one of my guy friends right now... o_o

Claire: *sigh* Probably stupid girls that seemingly only think/care about the male love interest and definitely flat characters that lack all other personality besides their single goal, whatever that goal is of their story. Whether it is saving their little brother or mother, or whatever it is. I hate how some characters are constantly constantly only focused on that one goal. Am I actually making any sense at all? I am so sorry for my craziness. Craziness is acceptable as long as you don't kill Ella, Lupe, or me. ;)

Sam: When they are annoying, or CONSTANTLYYY need to be saved. Aside from those two though badly developed and flat characters are the worst for me. With characters that are stereotypical, or flat, or unrealistic it completely ruins the book for me. :P Ugh. I hear you on the characters that constantly need to be saved. You'd think main characters would only need to be saved every so often and not all the time. -_-

Who are some of your favorite singers/songwriters and bands?
Sophie: You don't know what you just got yourself into my dear^^ Are you ready for this? Bring it on, Sophie!

Bastille, Benjamin Francis Leftwich, Of Monster and Men, Bon Iver, Milo Greene, Smallpool, The Pretty Reckless, The Fray, Lifehouse, Passion Pit, Young the Giant....

Alright, I'll stop here.

Claire: YES. Love this question! I love The Zolas, Oh Wonder, Panic at the Disco, The Antlers, Bea Miller, Meghan Trainor, and Lana Del Rey! There are a lot more but those are some of my favorite. I also really like the soundtrack of Miyazaki movies. OMG, I FOUND MY BEA MILLER BUDDY!!!

Sam: Lana del Rey, Troye Sivan, Hamilton, Major Lazer, Melanie Martinez, Panic! At The Disco, aanddd Sia.

What inspired you to become a blogger?
Sophie: My "How I became a blogger story" really isn't that exciting. I wasn't even aware that book blogs existed until last summer and just like that, I decided I wanted to try it. It wasn't out of boredom or because I had been following other blogs… I guess I just wanted to prove to myself that I could do it? Yeah, let's go with that. ;) My story is similar if not the same. ;)

Claire: I honestly don’t really remember. I remember telling my parents I wanted to start a blog. I remember really not knowing what I was doing and because of this I turned blogging into a chore and quit after a month. But after I made friends on Twitter and once school started and I learned to manage my time I suddenly wanted to try again. The second time around I’ve had a far better experience and I’m really having a great time blogging. Yay! Here's to more years to come! :D

Sam: My love for books DUHHHH!! Haha, but actually it was because I used to be a BookTuber and then I saw all these awesome blogs and I was having a lot of trouble keeping up with uploading videos regularly so I turned to blogging because I felt it fit my schedule more. I like that with blogging you can sort of just go at your own pace and disappear for months at a time if you're super busy. Editing videos can take up soo much time especially when your editing software quits in the middle and deletes everything, with blogging you can type up, edit and publish a post so quickly! I love that.

In the unfortunate tragedy you have to kill your favorite fictional boyfriend/girlfriend, who would it be? (Sophia is guilty of this question.)
Sophie: Why would I have to kill him? And besides, how would you know if the character I pick is really one of my book boyfriend? He could be a character I despise B)

Alright, I pick Percy. I know I'd probably miss or something, and if ever I did actually kill him, Leo or another of his friend could certainly bring him back to life.

Dammit. Oh, wait, did I say that out loud? My bad. *turns pink*

Claire: SOPHIA! How could you even ask me of this? You make me cry Sophia...I think I will have to kill Nikolai Lantsov from Grisha trilogy. Oh my god, my soul is like cracking right now. You guys don’t understand how much I love Nikolai Lantsov, only I love Rowan Whitethorn, Will Herondale, Day, Morpheus, Theo Finch and 30+ more even more than Nikolai.

*bursts into fangirl tears*

*runs away*

And we have a runaway blogger.... CLAIRE, COME BACK!!! I PROMISE I DON'T HATE YOU.... *sigh* And then there were two.

Sam: AAAAAH WHY THIS, WHY?!? Okay but it would be either Noah Shaw from The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer, or Rhysand from ACOTAR. They are on the very top of my book boyfriend list. I love them sososo much.

*begins to look embarrassed for unintentionally chasing away a blogger and making all three internally scream in terror* Oopsies....
