Novel Newcomers (Late Edition): Interview with Lila and Alaina

Okay, okay, I get it.

This is the second time I've forgotten all about NN16 (I try not to. I even have a planner. What do I? Continue to forget.).

This week... let me introduce you all to Alaina from An Infinite Book World and Lila from The Bookkeeper's Secrets.

Outside of blogging and reading, what other interests do you have?
Alaina: Well, of course I am a big fan of writing! What reader doesn't enjoy writing. But, writing does have to do with blogging so let's secretly not count that one….:) One of my favorite things to do in my free time is paint. I love the freedom you have while painting to create a beautiful masterpiece, alike writing. I also really like music. Listening, not playing. Though I'm pretty good at the trumpet, I prefer to just stick some earbuds in my ears and relax!

Lila: I'm a classically trained singer so I love singing and spend as much time as I can singing! I'm also kind of a science nerd (okay, so make that a BIG science nerd). I'm a biology major, but I love studying biology, physics, and chemistry and mixing them all together (because life is the mixture of those fields)! So I enjoy learning in my spare time (told ya I'm a nerd).

Nerds are cool though.

What is your most unusual accomplishment?
Alaina: I don't think I actually have any “unusual” accomplishments. I'm pretty basic. But, I guess I could count reading Wuthering Heights at the age of 12 as unusual? Most people would wait until their older to read it but I loved the storyline so much that I couldn't wait that long!

Lila: I built a planet! Seriously. I built a planet. Here's the story. I took a summer astronomy in high school and one of our assignments was to theoretically "build" a planet out of any material we wanted. So I did all of the math and all of the measurements and built a planet out of diamond and sapphire. Let's just say it was a very cold, very hard planet that probably wouldn't have sustained life...

*whistles* Someone just put my astronomy project to shame.

What is your favorite food?
Alaina: I'm a die-hard fan of strawberry yogurt. It's pretty much the best food ever!

Lila: I'm a sucker for any kind of really good salad, especially my mom's homemade salad! But also, chocolate!

What are some of your top reads this year?
Alaina: So far, My favorite read has been Sweet Evil! I'm a big fan of paranormal. But, I also really enjoyed reading both City of Glass and The Raven Boys!

Lila: Like, my favorite reads? The #1 spot has to go to Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff (if you haven't read it yet, what have you been doing with your life???!). But beyond that one, I loved Rebel of the Sands by Alwyn Hamilton and The Raven King by Maggie Stiefvater!

What kinds of advice or bits of information would you have liked to know before you started blogging? Any advice to share with future new bloggers?
Alaina: I would've really liked to know that you have to make quite a bit of time to blog. At first, I just thought it was going to be something fun to do in my free time. But, it's actually something that I have to take time with and hope for the best. As to advice for new/future bloggers, just try your best. It's your love for books (or whatever you want to blog about) and you should write posts on what you love! But also remember to update your viewers frequently and have fun with it. Blogging is a joyride!

Lila: It's all about passion. Passion drives you and your blog. Passion gives you the desire to actually do this thing and it also attracts people to you. Also, it's okay to be spontaneous sometimes--I think the best ideas are born from spontaneity!

What are some backlist titles on your must read list this year?
Alaina: I have a bunch of classics and Shakespeare plays that I would love to get to. I would really like to give Pride and Prejudice [a read] and a reread of Wuthering Heights. And I have a gigantic copy of Les Misérables sitting on my shelf collecting dust so I hope to at least start that one! As for my Shakespeare plays, I currently own Macbeth, Othello and The Winter’s Tale and I would love to read all three of them this year!

*squawks* IT'S THE SCOTTISH PLAY. *whispers* Bookwyrming Thoughts better come out of this alive.

Lila:
me: *thinks about my backlist titles*
me: *melts into puddle of anxiety*
Let's see...There's The Winner's Kiss by Marie Rutkoski, Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo, Uprooted by Naomi Novik, Outlander by Diana Gabaldon...*continues listing books until dead*

Um... please don't die...

Sophia solemnly swears she is up to no good. Name three villains you would totally conspire mischief with and why.
Alaina: Well, definitely hands down Sebastian Morgenstern because he is so hot! I would also like to team up with Jane from the Twilight saga. Though she's not totally villainous, she is with the Volturri and has all of those fatal powers. I would probably also team up with Queen Levana because she has a look that can control a universe.

Lila: Ooooh! I love this question! Hmmm...I'd go with...Lord Voldemort, because he's the biggest and baddest of them all and I'd rather have him with me than against me, The Darkling because he is fine, obviously, and the villains of Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard (trying not to spoil the books here) because they are divinely devious! I think that's a good team--the mastermind (Voldy), the hot guy (The Darkling), and the psychopaths (the villains of Red Queen)!
