Blog Tour: Ignite the Shadows by Ingrid Seymour - Review + Giveaway

Ignite the Shadows #1
Author: Ingrid Seymour
Publication Date: October 22, 2015
Publisher: Harper Voyager

Sixteen-year-old Marci Guerrero is one of the best teen hackers in Seattle. However, she’d give up all her talents to know she isn’t crazy.

Marci feels possessed by what she perceives as shadowy spectres that take control of her body and make her do crazy things. While spying on the clandestine group known as IgNiTe, she’s confronted by the leader, James McCray. His presence stirs the spectres inside her brain into a maddening frenzy. Her symptoms and ability to control them don’t go unnoticed by James, who soon recruits her and shows her the awful truth.

Half of the world’s population is infected by sentient parasites. They bind themselves to the human brain and replace the pathways for all thoughts and actions. The creatures then morph their hosts into grotesque monsters with extraordinary strengths. Winged, clawed, fanged half-humans become living nightmares. Now Marci wishes she was crazy, because the truth is worse.

She’s infected.

Sophia's Review

I always have a thing for books related to hacking (or if the main character is a hacker). But while Ignite the Shadows certainly isn't about hacking (it only plays a minor part to the story), I still enjoyed the book regardless and the world Seymour builds. Ignite the Shadows is almost like a combination of the first and second book in a typical dystopian trilogy, which makes it stand out.

Plus, an infection is involved, and it's just really cool how those infected by sentient parasites can take advantage and develop superpowers - very similar to I Am Number Four in my opinion. Trying to get used to those parasites in a symbiotic relationship is definitely going to be a struggle for Marci continuing through the second book, but I think it'll be an adventure to see what Marci comes up with.

Ignite the Shadows is fast paced and intriguing - I have high hopes for this series despite the power similarities to I Am Number Four.
