Novel Newcomers: Interviews with Sophie @ Sophie Reads YA and Em @ Piplup's Shadowy Bookshelf (Hey, It's Lupe's Birthday, too!)

Are YOU a book blogger? Did you start in 2016? We want to feature YOU!
Hi Everyone and Happy Monday! (Holy monkeys it has been freezing, it's finals week and next week is winter break for the next four weeks...)

Also, random announcement.

IT'S LUPE'S BIRTHDAY TODAY. She gets a pile of adorable pandas. And you can find her on Twitter (@CatchingBookz).
And now back to the program. Due to last week's opening of sign ups for Novel Newcomers 2017, we're going a little... off course. And if you're a book blogger who started this year or know a blogger that did, we would be absolutely delighted to have you! Be sure to sign up or spread the word if you're interested!

This week, we have Sophie from Sophie Reads YA and Em from Piplup's Shadowy Bookshelf!

Outside of blogging and reading, what other interests do you have?
Sophie: I’ve recently graduated uni, and have started teaching, so that really interests me. My degree is in history and ancient history, and anything to do with the Roman Empire or Tudor England gets me interested straight away.
Em: Mmmm… Outside of blogging and reading, I love to draw and play sports! I play badminton and do karate every week. I also love doodling and I sometimes draw fanart.

What is your most unusual accomplishment?
Sophie: Honestly, I can’t really think of anything. When I was 12:16, I was in the army cadets, and enjoyed my time in that, so that could be an accomplishment. Otherwise, I’ve had quite a boring life.
Em: I'm not really sure how I should answer this question lol. Unusual accomplishment? I would say for me, being able to blog for so long. I never thought I would be able to stick with blogging, but I have surprisingly!

What is your favorite food?
Sophie: I love sweet things, like fairy cakes, or milk chocolate. Also, I love roast dinners, and don’t really care what meat it is, as long as it isn’t pork.
Em: My favourite food is probably rice lol. I'm a really boring person. Ohhh or maybe ketchup chips.

Speaking of food, Christmas is also a time spent with loved ones and eating food. Name a fictional family you would love to join in their holiday festivities.
Sophie: The Weasley’s, obviously!
Em: I agree with Sophie! Definitely the Weasley’s.

What are you excited for about Christmas? (And if you don't celebrate Christmas, what's on your wish list currently?)
Sophie: Well, with my new job training to be a history teacher, we’ve been warned that the lead up to Christmas is the worst part of the whole course, so I’m just looking forward to a break, really. I know I’m getting four books that I’m desperate for too, so I think my time off will be spent reading them.
Em: I'm excited for Christmas because then I won't have to go to school lol. I don't really celebrate Christmas, but I'm excited to spend some time with my family and hopefully read and blog!

In just a few weeks, 2017 will be upon us. What debuts are you extremely excited for?
Sophie: Heartstone by Katherine Elle White, Empress of a Thousand Skies by Rhoda Belleza, and When Dimple Met Rishi by Sandhya Menon, are ones I can think of, off the top of my head.
Em: Definitely Caraval, and also The Takedown, The Hate You Give, Soulmated, and The Love Interest!

What goals do you have for 2017? (It does not have to be blogging related: whatever you feel comfortable sharing.)
Sophie: Hopefully in 2107 I’ll become a fully fledged teacher, and will graduate with my PGCE from Durham University.
Em: Goals? Hmm… Survive 2017 with hopefully few casualties. ;)
