Blog Tour: The Epic Crush of Genie Lo - Interview + Giveaway

Hello and welcome to today's stop on the Genie Lo blog tour! Today I have an interview with the author, F.C. Yee, and Genie Lo herself!

The Epic Crush of Genie Lo
Author: F.C. Yee
Publisher: Amulet Books
Publication Date: August 8, 2017
Links: Goodreads | Amazon | Barnes & Noble | TBD
The struggle to get into a top-tier college consumes sixteen-year-old Genie Lo's every waking thought. But when her sleepy Bay Area town comes under siege from hell-spawn straight out of Chinese folklore, her priorities are suddenly and forcefully rearranged.

Her only guide to the demonic chaos breaking out around her is Quentin Sun, a beguiling, maddening new transfer student from overseas. Quentin assures Genie she is strong enough to fight these monsters, for she unknowingly harbors an inner power that can level the very gates of Heaven.

Genie will have to dig deep within herself to summon the otherworldly strength that Quentin keeps talking about. But as she does, she finds the secret of her true nature is entwined with his, in a way she could never have imagined…

About the Author:

F. C. Yee grew up in New Jersey and went to school in New England, but has called the San Francisco Bay Area home ever since he beat a friend at a board game and shouted “That’s how we do it in NorCal, baby!” Outside of writing, he practices capoeira, a Brazilian form of martial arts, and has a day job mostly involving spreadsheets.

Questions for the author
1. What was your inspiration for this story?
My inspiration was the vague, nebulous idea that legendary figures brought into a contemporary setting could have some awesome battles that I wanted to write, with the mundane backdrop making their exploits seem even more incredible. But over time, as the story developed, I became much more interested in the down-to- earth character struggles I’d set up.

2. If you had to pick one character to be your favorite to write, which would it be and why?
I liked writing Yunie as a supremely confident, completely uninhibited person whose moral compass is determined only by what’s good for her friends. Now that I think about it, she’s a little like the original Sun Wukong in that regard. I never really put that together before now.

3. This is a super important question: Do you pour milk in a bowl before the cereal, or pour the cereal in before the milk?
Cereal first, then milk. Though I recognize the drawback that you can’t see exactly how much milk is
there.

Questions for Genie Lo
1. What's your favorite subject in school?
Math. I’m not vulnerable to misinterpretation in math.

2.If you were on an abandoned island with only three things with you, what would they be?
A satellite phone, a tank of water, and Quentin because he could jump us out. Sorry, but there’s no way I’m staying on that island a second longer than I have to.

3. When your city came under siege, what was your first thought?
“This isn’t happening.” The thought didn’t last long though. Life has a way of telling you what is really happening, and it’s not always going to wait for you to come around.
